Start with the right material list.
For a gate, railing, canopy or furniture frame, a sketch and measurements are a useful starting point. Describe the overall dimensions, the profile you want to use and how many pieces are needed. Existing material can be described by its outside shape, dimensions and wall thickness.
Plan before you order
A material quotation does not include structural design, fabrication, installation or a coating service unless explicitly agreed. For load-bearing work, have the section sizes checked by a qualified engineer. If your fabricator has a cutting list, submit it rather than estimating quantities from a photograph.
